When the transformation of blood sugar into energy is checked, it results in diabetes. The energy produced by the breakdown of glucose is required by the cells to perform various bodily functions. This conversion of glucose is facilitated by the hormone insulin produced by the pancreas.

Insufficient insulin causes the excess glucose to remain in the blood causing diabetes. This excess glucose is excreted through the urine. If untreated, could lead to serious complications.
